Britain's third biggest drugmaker Shire saw third-quarter sales come in broadly in line with analysts' expectations, driven by sales of its hyperactivity medicines.

The benchmark share index extended losses to fall by more than 1 percent on Friday as U.S. jobs data weighed, while mining stocks tracked metal prices lower and British Energy slipped after a takeover blow.

Shire posted second-quarter results that topped analyst expectations on sales of its older attention deficit disorder (ADHD) drug Adderall XR, and raised its sales forecast for the full year.
